Volunteering

There are always things that need done at the museum so we can always use some help. No previous experience is necessary for many of these jobs and we look forward to adding you to our team!

High school students are welcome to do any of their 40 community hours with us.

Gardener

Responsible To: Curator
Location: Museum gardens
Hours of Work: Flexible as needed; seasonal
Qualifications: Basic knowledge of gardening and flowers. A knowledge of herbs and heritage flowers would be an asset.

Job Description:
Volunteers needed to assist with the development and cultivation of the Museum's gardens and light outdoor maintenance.

Archives/Typing Volunteer

Responsible To: Curator
Location: Museum
Hours of Work: Open hours; flexible
Qualifications: Knowledge of basic word processing and spreadsheet programs; an eye for detail

Job Description:
Assist the staff in recording, cataloguing and care of archival materials located in the Museum's Archives. On-the-job training is provided. Specific projects need to be completed

Education Volunteer

Responsible To: Curator
Location: Museum/ Classroom
Hours of Work: Flexible development time; Booked children's tours or classroom visits.
Qualifications: Should enjoy interacting with children aged 4 - 17.

Job Description:
Development and execute school tours and school aged children's programming.

Fundraising Volunteer

Responsible To: Curator/ Fund-raising Sub-Committee
Location: Variable based on job needs
Hours of Work: Flexible
Qualifications: Knowledge of how fund-raising works on a small town scale or on a larger more cooperate scale is an asset but not necessary; innovative and creative mind

Job Description:
Attend meetings to generate ideas or take on responsibility for a fund-raising activity. You can also just come to an event for a couple of hours and help out. Assist at Museum Events as required.

Museum Custiodian

Responsible To: Curator
Location: Museum
Hours of Work: Flexible; job must be completed once a week
Qualifications: Dependent on the type of cleaning being done

Job Description:
You can do one of the cleaning jobs, or all of them. Jobs required include:

  • Floor Cleaning
  • Window/Glass Cleaning
  • Dusting
  • Bathroom Cleaning
  • Kitchen area cleaning
  • other tasks as requested
